Utah

Utah is a state in the Western USA; it is bordered by Idaho and Wyoming in the north, Colorado in the east, Arizona in the south, and Nevada in the west. Its southeastern corner touches Arizona, New Mexico, and Colorado. It is the 30th-most-populous of the states with a population of 3,205,958 inhabitants in 2019. Its capital and largest city is Salt lake city. Its governor is Spencer Cox.

Utah has semi-arid to desert climate, due to its geographic location in relation to the mountain systems of the West.

Native American tribes formed over thousands of years in this region, including the Navajo, Goshute, Ute, Paiute, Bannock, and Shoshone. Their descendants still live in the state today. The first Spanish explorers reached the land around 1776. But soon, in 1821, Mexico won its independence from Spain and claimed parts of the area for itself. In 1848, the United States won the Mexican-American War, where Mexico ceded Utah. In 1896, Utah became the 45th state.

Well known for its five national parks: Arches, Bryce Canyon, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, and Zion; for its eight national monuments, and two national recreation areas, this altogether made tourism a major industry for Utah. The state is also a major producer of gold, silver, uranium, and molybdenum.
