Georgia
Georgia is bordered by Tennessee in the north, South Carolina and the Atlantic Ocean in the east, Florida in the south, and Alabama in the west. It is the 24th largest in area and 8th most populous of the 50 states. Its capital and biggest city is Atlanta and in 2019 the state had a population of 1 0617 423. Its governor is Brian Kemp.
It has a rich historic past as the first people arrived at least 13,000 years ago. By 1,000 B.C. Native American tribes including the Apalachee, Cherokee, and Choctaw lived here. In 1788 it became the fourth U.S. state, but at the start of the Civil War in 1861, Georgia left the Union and wouldn’t return until the end of the war in 1865.
The state has primarily a humid subtropical climate. Hot and humid summers are typical. Georgia is defined by a diversity of landscapes, flora, and fauna. The state's northernmost regions include the Blue Ridge Mountains, part of the larger Appalachian Mountain system. Georgia grows the most peanuts in the United States, and it’s also the third biggest producer of peaches in the U.S., behind California and South Carolina, that’s why it is nicknamed "The Peach State".
Traditions are in the heart of the inhabitants, like going to church every Sunday and Wednesday, the Storytelling, and the tradition that teenager girls always dress up for collegiate football games.
