Delaware

Delaware is situated on the East coast of the USA; it is bordered to the south and west by Maryland, north by Pennsylvania, and east by New Jersey and the Atlantic Ocean. It is nicknammed "the First State" because on December 7, 1787, Delaware became the first state to ratify the Constitution of the United States. Its capital is Dover, but the largest city is Wilmington. It is the second smallest and sixth least populous state with 982,895 inhabitants in 2019. Its governor is John Carney.

The climate of Delaware is humid and temperate. August, which has the second warmest temperatures after July, is also the rainiest month, with an average precipitation of about 5.5 inches (140 mm), whereas February has the least precipitation. Delaware is a transition zone between plants typical of Pennsylvania and New York and those common to coastal Maryland and Virginia. Deer, foxes, raccoons, opossums, and muskrats are common. Beaches and marshes are a winter refuge for many wildfowl.

Delaware has an incredibly rich history, despite its modest size. Visitors can experience Delaware’s colonial influence in coastal towns like Lewes and New Castle, which appear largely unchanged even after 300 years. The Brandywine Valley is showcase of Delaware’s influence too. The home of DuPont has left behind some of America’s most impressive mansions and gardens. The towns in this scenic river valley are as laid back and friendly as any place in the country despite their obvious wealth.
